January 26, 1934 – March 13, 2026 Virgie Rose Bateman of Port Richey, FL passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on March 13, 2026. Born in the Gum Neck Township of NC, she was one of twelve children, married her high school sweetheart in 1953, and had four children. She was a faithful Christian wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Virgie devotedly wrote cards and letters to keep in touch with family and friends (old and newly met). While she worked in various capacities outside the home throughout her life, her greatest achievement was caregiver, first to her children, her husband, her parents and then elderly members of her community. She is preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Dezzie Rose, each of her twelve siblings, her husband (of 46 years) Everett Bateman, and her son Danny Bateman. She is survived by her daughters, Robin Duesenberry and husband Bruce of Port Richey, FL, Tammy Nothnagel and husband Leonard King of Chesapeake, VA, and Donna Lachner of Hertford, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Carey Faivre (husband Spencer) of Gates, NC, Shannon Sale (husband Kevin) of Monroe, LA, Timothy Gooch (wife Tina) of Hertford, NC, Tabitha Whitson (husband Eric) of Charlotte, NC, April Perez of Inverness, FL, Michael Nothnagel (wife Kati) of Montgomery, TX, and Zachary King (wife Autumn) of Chesapeake, VA. Additionally, she is survived by 21 great, grandchildren, and 9 great, great, grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held March 29, 2026, 2pm at Sandy Acres Free Will Baptist Church 65 Smith Ln. Columbia, NC with a fellowship luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, P.O. Box 97339 Washington, DC 20077-7472 (Virgie was a generous supporter of this, her favorite charity)
