Thornton (Joe) Charles Bond, 88, of Hudson FL, beloved husband of the late Frances (Tootie) Jane Bond, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020. Joe was born on February 20, 1932 and was the son of the late Charles and Mina Bond of Enfield, CT. Joe was a 1950 graduate of Enfield High School, where he was a standout athlete in basketball and skating and where he met his wife Frances Jane Phillips who was a recent Baystate Health Nursing School Graduate. Joe joined the Navy after High School during the Korean War and was stationed in Virginia. After his deployment with the U.S. Navy, Joe and Tootie lived in Enfield and then moved to Somers, CT where Joe was active in his community serving on the Somers Lions Club, Somers Board of Education and coach for the Somers Little League. Joe spent his career in the IT Division of United Technologies Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, CT. He and his wife Tootie enjoyed their time on Cape Cod having vacationed there many times with the family and eventually moved to Cape Cod full time. In retirement, Joe and Tootie moved to Hudson, FL where Joe enjoyed his time on the golf course. Joe loved playing his trumpet and would play along with his Jazz records and close friends. With the passing of Tootie in 2013 Joe spent his time with his coffee buddies in the morning and visiting his favorite restaurants for lunch where he was greeted with hugs and handshakes. He was a “people person” and enjoyed being around friends and family. One of his favorite pastimes was going to “R-Beach” on Wednesdays to listen to jazz and support his friends in the band. Joe was a true family man who is survived by his daughter and two sons and daughters-in-law, Kimberly Frances Bond of Somersworth, NH, Douglas Charles and Tanya Bond of Rochester, WA and Jeffrey Thomas and Elena Bond of Woodstock, CT; his nine grandchildren, Natalie, Jared, Nelson, Joshua, Joseph, William, Abigail, Connor and Amanda as well as several nieces and nephews.
