John Michael Scott

Memorial services for John Michael Scott, 79, of Hudson, Florida, were held at Prevatt Funeral Home, 7709 State Road 52, in Hudson on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Rev. Pius T. Mathew presided over the service. 

John was born in Ada, Oklahoma, on February 25, 1947, to Paul Norman Scott and Charlcie Jane Mitchell. He grew up in Ada, graduated from Ada High School in 1965, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from East Central State College in 1972. Before graduating from college, he married Frances Lupinski on August 6, 1971.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and later joined the U.S. Coast Guard. John had a variety of occupations throughout his life. In Ada, he worked for KTEN-TV and later started his own carpet cleaning and fire restoration business, J & F Restoration. His final occupation was as a social worker in the state of Washington.

John had many hobbies, including woodworking, singing (especially karaoke), songwriting, and fishing. 

He loved his family and took great pride in them. He enjoyed being with them whenever possible. 

Survivors include his wife, Frances; three sons, Matthew Scott, of Ada, Oklahoma; Christopher Scott and his wife, Janna, of Dunedin, Florida; and John Paul Scott of Dunedin, Florida; two grandchildren, Jacob and Isabella; a brother, Stanley Paul Scott, and his wife, Prudy; nephews Curtis Scott and Craig Scott; and a brother-in-law, Rudy Lupinski.

John's brother said, "John was one of the great ones, truly. In all these years, there was never a bad word said about him. That's just the type of man he was—kind, decent, and full of heart. He was someone you were lucky to know and blessed to call family."

John was preceded in death by his parents. 

He passed away July 28, 2026, at the Dr. Jay Weil Center for Hospice Care, New Port Richey, FL.
