John Andrew Durler, Sr.

August 25, 1940 — June 2, 2025

New Port Richey

John passed away very peacefully on the evening of June 2nd at Brookwood Assisted Living in Hudson, Fl. He is survived by his wife, Frances, of 27 years, four sisters, Floann, Jean, Mary, Pamela and Pauline. Also four sons, Daniel, John, Michael and David, two loving daughters, Heather and Heidi, step-son, Nicholas Mancuso, and eleven grandchildren.

He enjoyed baking, fishing, watching movies, music, but his greatest passion was his love of words. Always surrounded by books, he avidly read. It was at a poetry event on Long Island where he met his wife, Frances. He was often a featured poet, reading his own works at many Long Island venues: bookstores, coffee shops, colleges and even a posh beauty salon.

At the Progress Energy Art Gallery, formerly in New Port Richey, FL, he performed in radio plays, and once on stage at the Suncoast Theater.

He was well loved by his family, friends and acquaintances, who were drawn to his gentle nature and often funny, quirky personality.

God has another poet in Heaven. May he rest in the gentle peace of God's love.

John Andrew Durler, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, at the age of 84. John was born on August 25, 1940, and grew up in a small town in upstate New York.

His early years instilled in him the values of hard work, humility, and the importance of family—principles he carried with him throughout his life.

He was the beloved husband of Frances Mancuso Durler, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Together, they built a life rooted in mutual respect, joy, and shared dreams.

John was the proud father of his four sons—John (Jean), Michael, Daniel (Lisa), and David (Lori); his two daughters—Heather (Michael) and Heidi (Sal); and his stepson, Nicky (Amanda). He loved being a grandfather to Jessica, Karissa, Daniel, Amber, Liam, Jacob, Alexa, Dylan, Salvatore, Angelina, and Gianna, and was excited to welcome his great-granddaughter, Dylan.

For over 40 years, John dedicated himself to a successful career in real estate. He was not only respected in the field but served as a mentor to many, always eager to help others move forward in their lives. His passion for helping people was the heart of his work. John found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved boating and fishing, had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and was rarely without a book in hand. A movie enthusiast, he could watch films for hours and never tired of a good story. He also had a deep love for writing poetry and short stories, often capturing the beauty and complexity of life through his words. His creativity was matched by his deep love for animals—often bringing home strays and offering them care and a place to belong.

Those who knew John will remember his warm smile, steady wisdom, quirky personality, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. He led by example, loved without condition, and leaves behind a legacy of compassion, character, and quiet strength.

John will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love he gave and the life he lived.
