Grant Wesley Coombs

1931 — September 5, 2020

Grant W Coombs Brother, Husband, Dad, Friend March 8, 1931 - September 5, 2020 Grant passed away suddenly Saturday evening, September 5, 2020. He was born to Robert and Jesse Coombs, the fourth of ten children, in Lawton Michigan. Grant was always an athletic sort; as a young man he became an expert rifleman along with several of his siblings. He enlisted and served his country as a proud Marine. He enjoyed the game of fastpitch softball during its heyday and was a pitcher for over 30 years. He loved bowling and rolled several ‘300’ games and collected multiple trophies and rings over five decades. He also loved throwing horseshoes and was well known in several local tournaments. In later years he was in high demand as a handyman in the community. There was not a sprinkler job he wouldn’t tackle. Grant was a dedicated and loyal employee for 38 years before retiring early and moving to sunny Florida in 1991. At his side was his best friend and beloved wife of 53 years, Marge, who preceded him in death ten years ago. His survivors include two daughters, Christine of Spring Hill and Theresa of Plainwell Michigan, sister Joanne (Louie) of PawPaw Michigan and brother Walter (Joanne) of Arizona, along with many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. And let us not forget his fur babies, who have spent almost every moment at his side. In addition, Grant leaves behind extended family members Jason, Harrison and Stella Greep of Spring Hill, special family friend Marilyn Skirtich of Port Richey, long time friend Sam (Sheila) Johnson of Kalamazoo Michigan and Dennis Beatty of Port Richey. Grant was an all-around good guy and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. RIP GG In lieu of flowers, the American Heart Association will accept contributions in Grant’s memory.
