Dorothy Mae Mitchell

1928 — January 11, 2021

Dorothy was a loving and affectionate woman. Driven and with a mind of her own, whenever she set a goal for herself she always completed it. She had the willpower to get through any storm that life threw at her. Thanks to her strong will and spirit, she achieved many things in life. She was a proud mother to six children: Sandra Thompson (James, deceased) New Port Richey, FL; Eugene Mitchell (Mary Ann) of Hudson, MI; Scott Mitchell (Becky) of Birmingham, AL; Michael Mitchell (Betsy) of Athens, AL; Tracy Mitchell of New Port Richey, FL; and David Mitchell of Port Richey, FL. Dorothy grew up in Williamsburg, Kentucky and Carlton, Michigan. She attended college at Freed-Hardemon University in TN before she married Peter Mitchell from Scarbro, WV on December 4, 1948 and they were married for thirty-three years. Dorothy settled in New Port Richey in 1982, but she wasn’t home for long thanks to her love of travel. Before heading home to her final resting place, she experienced 19 countries, 49 states and enjoyed 11 cruises all throughout the world. She shared her experiences with others and encouraged them to be adventurous as well. She was a devoted Christian and spread her faith throughout her family. She found comfort in old country music and gospel hymns, was always eager to chat about cooking and was quick to share her favorite recipes with friends and loved ones. She valued all of her friends and family. She absolutely loved being a grandmother. Dorothy had countless cousins, nieces, nephews, grandkids, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She put the time and dedication into developing a special relationship with each and every single one of them. She will be remembered most for her strong mind, her love for God, vibrant personality, and quiet strength. We will all remember her sharing her travel experiences and her faith with us. We will continue to make and share her recipes. We will remember her hugs and her being there for every visit and phone call.
